  • Vocal Tai Chi - Sounding Visions for 2026

If you can, please find a place where you have some space to move around.

In this workshop we will be intuitively sounding out our dreams and visions for 2026. These may be personal visions or collective. We will begin by brain stroming and heart flooding our ideas. I will collate all of these into a meditative word scape before guiding you into a body-breath-flow-form, from which we will sound out these visions. By connecting to the energy of intention and passion behind these visions, and then voicing this out, we will help these dreams become manifest in our lives.

Vocal Tai Chi is a way of working with the self through the relationship to one's own voice. Our voice contains everything we are: our identity, origin, our mental, emotional and physical states, and even our ancestry. Connecting with the flow of energy in breath and body, I will guide you through ways to engage and open your voice. From grounded, centred presence, you will initiate an ever deepening exploration of yourself within your sound. Vocal Tai Chi is a highly intuitive embodied practice, welcoming all sounds as valuable parts of us to be witnessed and honoured. It truly is liberating and can open us up to new levels of self acceptance, inner truth, expression, authenticity, release, healing and integration.

The workshop will finish with some resonant humming, along with Earth frequency gongs and bowls, to ground and anchor our visions. Please have headphones or good speakers handy for this part of the workshop.

Thursdays monthly - 7.30pm

£10

This ongoing series of workshops will introduce a new sound healing element and practice each month, followed by a sound meditation such as a soundbath, singing bowl meditation, sound activation, healing harp improvisation, planetary frequency atunement, and more.

A sound bath is an immersive sound experience. Once you are lying down and comfortable, I will take you on a meditative journey using gongs, singing bowls, chimes and percussion. Sound baths are great if you find it difficult to relax and let go. The sound gives your mind something to focus on and become absorbed in. The myriad vibrations can help your body release tension and your energetic system to shift imbalances and dissonant patterns.

Please bring anything you need to be comfortable. I suggest a yoga mat, blanket, pillow, bolster, teddy bear (optional). Please arrive 10 minutes before the start to get yourself settled.

Please read more about soundbaths below.

I rarely play the gongs loudly and so most people find the experience relaxing. However, the complex sounds of the larger symphonic gongs can be unusual and challenging for who are very sensitive or vulnerable. For this reason soundbaths are not recommended for:

  • Women in the first trimester of pregnancy

  • Children under the age of thirteen

  • If you have a metal implant or a pacemaker

  • Those experiencing severe mental health problems

  • Those affected by sound induced epilepsy

Come join me for a guided exploration into yourself as you exist within your own voice. At once simple, gentle & healing; at times, free, expressive & fun, this wonderful practice is a way of working with the self through the relationship to one's own voice. Our voice contains everything we are: our identity, origin, our mental, emotional and physical states, and even our ancestry. It is a highly intuitive embodied practice, welcoming all sounds as valuable parts of us to be witnessed and honoured. It truly is liberating and can open us up to new levels of expression, truth, authenticity, release, healing and integration.

Practicing Vocal Tai Chi in a group is an opportunity to explore how you feel about your voice and expressing yourself in the company of others. Letting go of the constraints of words and meaning, we gain some freedom from convention and conditioning. We can be more bold and courageous, and therefore more creative. What emerges for you can be witnessed and honoured by the group. I will guide you through this journey. It may comprise many layers, twists and turns, surprises, challenges and rewards. It is also a lifelong journey, as our own true nature unfolds and threads a path through this world.

We will begin with grounding and Earth connection, and then feel into the flow of energy in breath and body. I will guide you through ways to engage and open your voice. From this grounded, centred presence, we will feel into and explore what emerges.

Vocal Tai Chi is an initiation into an ever deepening exploration of yourself within your sound. And, as our voice is one of the primary ways we interact with the world, we can explore how we feel about this relationship and how we feel about being here in a body on this Earth.

The healing journey is often called 'the way back to wholeness'. Going far back, to our great grandmother language of Sanskrit, the state or process of healing can be translated as 'in flowing wholeness' (ref. Lucy Crisfield). In other words, to remain whole whilst moving through and adapting to what life brings. Wellbeing, then, is not a fixed state - it is in a constant flow, a journey that is part of the challenge and call of being in a body on this Earth.

This journey has many ups and downs, twists and turns, and is often not what we expect.

This is what we will be exploring on this day retreat. We will look at this challenge and share what this means. Furthermore, we will learn and experience what a great help sound healing practices can be for us on this journey.

Unfolding our Sound-Selves

With sound & silence

We are like an ocean. In our modern busy lives, we can become entirely consumed with the waves of activity on the surface. If we are able to stop and become still, we may become aware of the depth that lies beneath. This isn't always comfortable for us, so we keep ourselves busy. Sound offers us a safe way to bridge the difficult transition to stillness and to the Self. And to feel and deal with the things that may arise within us when we allow ourselves to be still. Sound healing practices can aid us in feeling, expressing and healing the things that we carry and that create deep currents of discomfort within us.

Sound vibrates the body, moves the emotions, inspires the mind and touches the spirit. It is deeply affecting, meditative and transformative. It can support our physical healing and health and balance our energetic system.

Join me for a weekend of gentle yet moving sound practices for your body, mind, energetic system and soul.

Programme will include:

  • Deep Listening Meditation - Sound & Sensation - Learning to be present with what is

  • Deep Grounding & Earth Connection

  • Resonant Humming for the Nervous & Energetic Systems

  • Earthwalk - Vocal Tai Chi Session 1 - Sounding our Outer Landscape - Listening & responding to the sounds of nature - Feeling into your sound-self in nature

  • Vocal Tai Chi Session 2 - Intuitive Voicework - Sounding our Inner Landscape

  • Sound Bath - A guided meditation leading into a gently immersive sound journey

  • Silence & Stillness - The compliment to sound and activity - a passive practice

  • Sound, the Body & Biofield - Exploring sound and our energetic system

Claridge House - A Place of Renewal

Built in the mid-19th century, Claridge House was acquired in 1954 by the Friends Fellowship of Healing, a Quaker body, for Friends to come and convalesce and gain spiritual renewal and healing. Later courses and retreats were added and the house became an independent charity. Throughout the past 70 years it has continued its original purpose of providing a sanctuary for guests seeking rest and renewal.

At the heart of our ethos lies a commitment to the timeless values of peace, simplicity, equality and truth. These Quaker values shape Claridge House, creating a sanctuary where everyone is welcome.

At Claridge House, our mission is simple yet profound: to cultivate a community where rest and renewal are accessible to all. Our commitment extends beyond providing a place of respite; we strive to foster an atmosphere of peace, safety, and connection, ensuring that every guest feels valued and supported on their journey to well-being.

Nestled within our tranquil retreat, you’ll find nourishment for the mind, body and soul. From enriching courses to inspire personal growth, space to dive deep within to wholesome vegetarian food. Every aspect of Claridge House is designed to ignite a sense of renewal within our guests. Our beautiful 2 acre garden serves as a sanctuary, offering a connection to nature that rejuvenates and restores.

But beyond the amenities lies something deeper — a heartfelt dedication to service and a genuine desire to exceed expectations. At Claridge House, our guests are more than visitors; they are cherished members of our community, and their well-being is our highest priority.

So whether you seek solace, healing, connection, or personal transformation, we invite you to step through our doors and experience the transformative power of Claridge House. Your journey to holistic well-being begins here, where everyone is truly welcome.

Day Retreat - Hyde, Greater Manchester

Music as Medicine

Sound Healing & Music - Day Retreat

Sand & Sound Centre

Digital House, 35 Ridling Ln, Hyde SK14 1NP, Greater Manchester

September 12th 2026 - 10am - 5pm

Music as Medicine

I learned to play guitar at the age of 14. Music became my therapy, allowing me to be with and process difficult feelings and experiences as I was maturing. Music was also a great source of inspiration, acting as a catalyst and guide to my spiritual growth. It particularly resonated with deep existential feelings, as if it held the keys to some mystical truth. I still feel this today, when I listen to, teach, or play music. For me, it touches the core of what it is to be human, whilst simultaneously vibrating on a level that is truly cosmic! In this way it does one of the greatest things that we are here to do - to unite Earth and stars within our own embodiment!

In this workshop, we will look at some elements of music that have this therapeutic and transformational potential. Drawing from the words and work of Hazrat Iayat Khan, Kay Gardner and other music and sound healing luminaries, we will explore this subject with plenty of experiential and interactive examples, so you can feel into it all yourself.

You don't need to have any musical experience to join this retreat. All practices will be accessible to everyone. You will have the opportunity just to listen, or to have a go, as you prefer. The day will be useful for expanding your appreciation and access to music's therapeutic potential in your daily life. It will also be useful if you are a practitioner and would like to take a deeper dive into some core elements of music and sound.

Musical & Sonic elements we will explore:

  • Frequency & Pitch - Healing frequencies & Coherence

  • Pulse & Rhythm - Moving the body and entrainment

  • Modes & Scales - The Voice of Soul

  • Harmony - Moving emotion
