A sound bath is an immersive sound experience. Once you are lying down and comfortable, I will take you on a meditative journey using gongs, singing bowls, chimes and percussion. Sound baths are great if you find it difficult to relax and let go. The sound gives your mind something to focus on and become absorbed in. The myriad vibrations can help your body release tension and your energetic system to shift imbalances and dissonant patterns.

Please bring anything you need to be comfortable. I suggest a yoga mat, blanket, pillow, bolster, teddy bear (optional). Please arrive 10 minutes before the start to get yourself settled.

I rarely play the gongs loudly and so most people find the experience relaxing. However, the complex sounds of the larger symphonic gongs can be unusual and challenging for who are very sensitive or vulnerable. For this reason soundbaths are not recommended for:
-
Women in the first trimester of pregnancy
-
Children under the age of thirteen
-
If you have a metal implant or a pacemaker
-
Those experiencing severe mental health problems
-
Those affected by sound induced epilepsy

Come join me for a guided exploration into yourself as you exist within your own voice. At once simple, gentle & healing; at times, free, expressive & fun, this wonderful practice is a way of working with the self through the relationship to one's own voice. Our voice contains everything we are: our identity, origin, our mental, emotional and physical states, and even our ancestry. It is a highly intuitive embodied practice, welcoming all sounds as valuable parts of us to be witnessed and honoured. It truly is liberating and can open us up to new levels of expression, truth, authenticity, release, healing and integration.

Practicing Vocal Tai Chi in a group is an opportunity to explore how you feel about your voice and expressing yourself in the company of others. Letting go of the constraints of words and meaning, we gain some freedom from convention and conditioning. We can be more bold and courageous, and therefore more creative. What emerges for you can be witnessed and honoured by the group. I will guide you through this journey. It may comprise many layers, twists and turns, surprises, challenges and rewards. It is also a lifelong journey, as our own true nature unfolds and threads a path through this world.

We will begin with grounding and Earth connection, and then feel into the flow of energy in breath and body. I will guide you through ways to engage and open your voice. From this grounded, centred presence, we will feel into and explore what emerges.

Vocal Tai Chi is an initiation into an ever deepening exploration of yourself within your sound. And, as our voice is one of the primary ways we interact with the world, we can explore how we feel about this relationship and how we feel about being here in a body on this Earth.

Claridge House - A Place of Renewal

Built in the mid-19th century, Claridge House was acquired in 1954 by the Friends Fellowship of Healing, a Quaker body, for Friends to come and convalesce and gain spiritual renewal and healing. Later courses and retreats were added and the house became an independent charity. Throughout the past 70 years it has continued its original purpose of providing a sanctuary for guests seeking rest and renewal.
At the heart of our ethos lies a commitment to the timeless values of peace, simplicity, equality and truth. These Quaker values shape Claridge House, creating a sanctuary where everyone is welcome.
At Claridge House, our mission is simple yet profound: to cultivate a community where rest and renewal are accessible to all. Our commitment extends beyond providing a place of respite; we strive to foster an atmosphere of peace, safety, and connection, ensuring that every guest feels valued and supported on their journey to well-being.

Nestled within our tranquil retreat, you’ll find nourishment for the mind, body and soul. From enriching courses to inspire personal growth, space to dive deep within to wholesome vegetarian food. Every aspect of Claridge House is designed to ignite a sense of renewal within our guests. Our beautiful 2 acre garden serves as a sanctuary, offering a connection to nature that rejuvenates and restores.
But beyond the amenities lies something deeper — a heartfelt dedication to service and a genuine desire to exceed expectations. At Claridge House, our guests are more than visitors; they are cherished members of our community, and their well-being is our highest priority.
So whether you seek solace, healing, connection, or personal transformation, we invite you to step through our doors and experience the transformative power of Claridge House. Your journey to holistic well-being begins here, where everyone is truly welcome.

Music as Medicine

Music as Medicine
I learned to play guitar at the age of 14. Music became my therapy, allowing me to be with and process difficult feelings and experiences as i was maturing. Music was also a great source of inspiration, acting as a catalyst and guide to my spiritual growth. It particularly resonated with deep existential feelings, as if it held the keys to some mystical truth. I still feel this today, when I listen to, teach, or play music. For me, it touches the core of what it is to be human whilst simultaneously vibrating on a level that is truly cosmic! In this way it does one of the greatest things that we are here to do - to unite Earth and stars within our own embodiment!

In this workshop, we will look at some elements of music that have this therapeutic and transformational potential. Drawing from the words and work of Hazrat Iayat Khan, Kay Gardner and other music and sound healing luminaries, we will explore this subject with plenty of experiential and interactive examples, so you can feel into it all yourself.
